Mary Washington and Marymount secured victories in the first round of the CAC volleyball tournament on Tuesday night, advancing to the semifinals.
Mary Washington, seeded third, defeated sixth-seeded Frostburg State 3-0, to move on to the semifinals for the sixth straight year. Fourth-seeded Marymount topped fifth-seeded St. Mary's 3-2 in Tuesday's other matchup, the second five-set triumph for the Saints over the Seahawks in the last week.
Mary Washington will travel to second-seeded Salisbury for Thursday's semifinal round. The Sea Gulls, making their 12th straight appearance in the semifinals, captured the regular season matchup over the Eagles by a 3-1 margin, on Oct. 11 in Salisbury.
Thursday's other semifinal matchup features Marymount at regular season champion and top seeded Christopher Newport. The Captains topped the Saints 3-0 last Saturday in the CAC regular season finale for both squads.
