  • Four CAC Volleyball Teams Earn AVCA Academic Honors

    Four CAC volleyball teams have been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)Team Academic Award for the 2017-18 season. Frostburg State, Mary Washington, Penn State Harrisburg and York received the honor from the national coaches association.

    Southern Virginia University Vice President and Director of Athletics Jason Lamb today named Debby Baker the head women's volleyball coach. 
  • Christopher Newport's Lucernoni, York's Brady Receive CoSIDA Academic All-District Volleyball Honors

    Christopher Newport junior Josie Lucernoni and York junior Eryn Brady have been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Volleyball team. Both will now be eligible to earn national Academic All-America honors which will be released in December.
  • Christopher Newport's Katelyn Newsome Named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention

    Christopher Newport senior Katelyn Newsome collected honorable mention All-American accolades from the American Volleyball Coaches Association after piecing together a tremendous 2017 season with the Christopher Newport volleyball team.  
  • Marymount Knocked Off by Westminster (Pa.) in ECAC Volleyball Semifinals

    Marymount women's volleyball senior Christy Tieman totaled 21 assists and a season-high 13 digs in the final match of her career as the Saints fell to Westminster (Pa.) in five sets, 18-25, 25-11, 25-18, 17-25, 18-16, in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III Women's Volleyball Championship Sunday at Frostburg State's Bobcat Arena.
  • Christopher Newport Volleyball Eliminated by Emory in NCAA Second Round

    The 21st-ranked Christopher Newport volleyball team bowed out of the NCAA Tournament on Friday evening as the Captains fell to No. 7 Emory, 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-13), during a second-round showdown at the Woodruff Center.
  • Three CAC Volleyball Players Earn AVCA All-Region Accolades

    Christopher Newport's Katelyn Newsome and Josie Lucernoni and Mary Washington's Peyton Dunow have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-North Region Team. Newsome collected first-team accolades, while Lucernoni and Dunow were honorable mention team selections. It marks the first All-Region awards for all three players. 
  • Christopher Newport Downs Thomas More 3-2 in NCAA Volleyball First Round

    Christopher Newport defeated Thomas More 3-2 in the first round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament on Thursday evening in Atlanta, Ga. Game scores were 16-25, 25-22, 25-23, 16-25, 15-11. 
  • Five CAC Teams to Compete in ECAC Championship Tournaments

    Five CAC fall sports teams will continue their seasons this week after receiving bids to compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Tournament. Frostburg State volleyball, Marymount volleyball, Frostburg State women's soccer, and Penn State Harrisburg men's and women's soccer teams will vie for ECAC titles, beginning Wednesday night with volleyball first-round action. 
  • Southern Virginia Senior Hannah Allred Named CAC Volleyball Player of the Year; UMW's Berry, CNU's Birch Collect Major Awards

    Southern Virginia senior Hannah Allred was selected as the Player of the Year to highlight the 2017 All-CAC Volleyball Team. Mary Washington freshman Wren Berry and Christopher Newport head coach Lindsay Birch collected the other major awards as Rookie and Coach of the Year, respectively. 
  • Christopher Newport Volleyball Headed to NCAA Regional at Emory

    CAC champion Christopher Newport is headed to Atlanta, Ga. for an eight-team NCAA Volleyball Regional hosted by Emory. The Captains (27-3) will take on Thomas More (29-5) in the first round on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
  • Christopher Newport Outlasts Mary Washington 3-2, Captures Fourth CAC Volleyball Title

    Top-seeded Christopher Newport outlasted second-seeded Mary Washington 3-2 in a back-and-forth CAC Volleyball Championship match on Saturday at the Freeman Center. Game scores were 26-28, 25-18, 25-19, 13-25, 15-10.

    After earning the the tops seeds and winning home semifinal matchups in field hockey, men's soccer, women's soccer, and volleyball, Christopher Newport is set to host a quartet of CAC Championships on a jam-packed day of action in Newport News, Va. 
  • Christopher Newport and Mary Washington Defend Home Courts in CAC Volleyball Semifinals

    Christopher Newport and Mary Washington will meet in the CAC volleyball championship for the second straight season following semifinal wins on Thursday night. The top-seeded Captains downed fourth-seeded Salisbury 3-0, while the second-seeded Eagles swept past third-seeded Southern Virginia 3-0.
  • Southern Virginia and Salisbury Notch Comeback Victories, Advance to CAC Volleyball Semifinals

    Southern Virginia and Salisbury each overcame early deficits to advance to the CAC volleyball semifinals with first-round victories on Tuesday night. Third-seeded Southern Virginia downed sixth-seeded Marymount 3-1, while fourth-seeded Salisbury recovered from a 2-0 hole to defeat fifth-seeded York, 3-2.
  • Marymount Freshman Maggie Viniard Selected as CAC Volleyball Player of the Week

    Marymount freshman Maggie Viniard was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after posting four double-doubles and helping the Saints earn a spot in the CAC Tournament with a 3-1 record last week.
  • Christopher Newport Volleyball Completes Unblemished CAC Regular Season; CAC Tournament Matchups Set

    Christopher Newport completed a perfect CAC regular season in its regular season finale on Saturday, marking the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Captains posted an umblemished CAC record. Mary Washington and Southern Virginia also posted key victories on Saturday, as the Eagles claimed the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye and the Knights clinched the No. 3 seed and a first-round home match. 
  • Christopher Newport Senior Katelyn Newsome Named CAC Volleyball Player of the Week
    October 23, 2017
    Christopher Newport senior Katelyn Newsome was named the CAC Player of the Week after leading the Captains on both sides of the ball with a .333 hitting percentage and 18 blocks in a 3-0 week. In wins over St. Mary's, Southern Virginia, and Frostburg State, she averaged 2.80 kills and 1.80 blocks per set. Her finest performance came against Southern Virginia on Friday in a showdown between the last two remaining undefeated teams in league play. Against the Knights, she posted 11 blocks and 10 kills. With that performance, she became the first Captain to register double-digit figures in both categories in a single match since 2014. Her 11 blocks also equaled the fourth-highest single-match total in program history and the most ever in a four-set tilt. Along with her performance against SVU, she added a pair of nine-kill outings against St. Mary's on Wednesday and Frostburg State on Saturday. She also posted six blocks in the sweep over the Seahawks. With her performance during the week, she took over the conference lead with 90 blocks this year.
  • Southern Virginia Senior Penny Gwynn Selected as CAC Volleyball Player of the Week

    Southern Virginia senior Penny Gwynn was selected as the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 16, 2017.  
  • Southern Virginia Sophomore LaRee Crockett Honored as CAC Volleyball Player of the Week
    October 09, 2017
    Southern Virginia sophomore LaRee Crockett was honored as the CAC Player of the Week after averaging 12.57 assists per set in a 2-0 week for the Knights. Crockett opened the week with 37 assists in a 3-0 sweep over Shenandoah. She followed that up with a career-high 51 assists in a 3-1 triumph against Frostburg State. Crockett also notched 15 digs in the win over FSU to post a double-double.

  • Southern Virginia Senior Hannah Allred Selected as CAC Volleyball Player of the Week

    Southern Virginia senior Hannah Allred was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after averaging 4.67 kills and 2.83 digs per set while hitting at a .434% clip in a 2-0 week for the Knights. Allred opened the week with 16 kills, eight digs, three service aces and two blocks in a 3-0 sweep over Roanoke. She followed that up with 12 kills, nine digs, two blocks and an ace in another sweep over Emory & Henry. She contributed 5.8 points per set in the pair of wins for the Knights. 
  • Salisbury Junior Nicole Venturelli Named CAC Volleyball Player of the Week

    Salisbury junior Nicole Venturelli was named the CAC Player of the Week after averaging 5.14 kills per set in a 3-1 week for the Sea Gulls at the Knights Invitational hosted by Neumann. Venturelli tied her season-high with 19 kills in a 3-0 win over Neumann before breaking her season-high with 23 kills in a tough five set loss to Cabrini. For the weekend Venturelli totaled 72 kills, a hitting percentage of .279, 28 digs, and two double-doubles. Her 178 kills and 4.34 kills per set currently ranks atop the CAC. 
  • Wesley Senior Tionne Graves-Brown Honored as CAC Volleyball Player of the Week
    September 12, 2017
    Wesley senior Tionne Graves-Brown was honored as the CAC Player of the Week after leading the Wolverines to a 4-0 week and earning All-Tournament Team honors at the Catholic University of America Guetle Invitational. In Wesley's four matches, she notched 48 digs, 46 kills, eight blocks and four double-doubles. For the week, she averaged 3.54 kills per game at a .389% clip and 3.69 digs per game. She also became Wesley's all-time career leader in kills at the tournament, surpassing Lilia Brekke's mark of 769 kills. 
  • Marymount Junior Caroline Hanson Earns CAC Volleyball Player of the Week

    Marymount junior Caroline Hanson earned CAC Player of the Week accolades after tallying four triple doubles last week in a 3-1 start for the Saints. Hanson, who finished last season ranked sixth in Division III with four triple doubles, averaged 14.3 kills, 17.3 assists and 13.3 digs for the week while also adding eight total blocks and four service aces. She posted a career-high 15 kills in the season opener against Cabrini before surpassing that with 18 kills against Virginia Wesleyan.
  • Mary Washington Tabbed as Preseason Favorite in CAC Volleyball Coaches' Poll

    Mary Washington earned the top spot in the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference Volleyball Preseason Poll. The Eagles, who captured their first CAC title since 1991 last fall, secured seven first-place votes and 79 points to land atop the preseason rankings. 
  • Bonitz Resigns as York Volleyball Coach; Mickle Named Interim

    With the preseason practice season starting in 10 days, the York College athletic department has announced that head coach Tim Bonitz has resigned his position effectively immediately. Bonitz has resigned to pursue another professional opportunity.
