Jackson Clement

Mary Washington junior right fielder JACKSON CLEMENT (Fairfax, Va./Woodson) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week after hitting .625 (5-for-8) with a triple, homer, four runs scored and four RBI in the Eagles midweek sweep against Catholic University. Clement keyed Thursday’s 7-6 victory with a homer, triple, two runs scored and two RBI.

Camontae Griffin

St. Mary’s senior guard CAMONTAE GRIFFIN (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) was named CAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fifth time this season after averaging 17.5 points, 4.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals in leading the Seahawks to four wins, clinching the CAC regular-season title and top seed in the CAC Tournament for the second-straight year. Griffin drained 22 points and matches his season-high with five assists in a showdown for first place against Wesley, and added a 20-point performance at Gallaudet. In less than two seasons, Griffin reached the 1,000 career point plateau in Tuesday’s win over Wesley. Griffin tallied 14 points in each weekend win against York and Mary Washington. He was SMC’s leading scorer in three of four games and had just five turnovers in four games.

Chris Barnard

Salisbury junior CHRIS BARNARD (Olney, Md./Sherwood) was named the CAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after placing eighth overall and was the first CAC runner across the line at Elizabethtown’s Battle for the Buggy at Lancaster County Park. Barnard covered the 6,000-meter course in 20:48, leading the Sea Gulls to third place in the team standings.

Kristy Witek

Mary Washington junior KRISTY WITEK (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) was selected as the CAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after placing fifth overall and leading the Eagles to second place in the team standings at the Battle of the Buggy in Lancaster (Pa.) County Park, hosted by Elizabethtown College. Witek covered the course in 26:12 and was the top CAC finisher in the race.

Kara Zimmerman

Stevenson junior goalkeeper KARA ZIMMERMAN (Odenton, Md./Arundel) was named the CAC Field Hockey Player of the Week after two strong performances in a regular-season upset victory and a tough playoff loss. Zimmerman totaled 21 saves (.840 percentage) and posted a 1.95 goals against average for the Mustangs. She had 10 saves in a win over Wesley that knocked the Wolverines out of a potential tie for second place in the regular-season standings. She was very active and finished with 11 saves in Sunday’s playoff loss at York, which tied for second place in ther regular-season standings. She finished the season with a career-best 172 saves and boasts a school record 420 career stops.

Andrew Schmehl

York sophomore ANDREW SCHMEHL (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca) was named the CAC Golf Athlete of the Week after capturing medalist honors at the Penn State-Harrisburg Spring Classic. Schmehl fired a pair of 73’s to take top honors in the 40-player field and lead the Spartans to the team title.

Dennis Rosson

St. Mary’s junior attackman DENNIS ROSSON (Severna Park, Md./The Severn School) was named the CAC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week after scoring 12 points on nine goals and three assists in three games, helping the Seahawks clinch the No. 3 seed in the CAC Tournament and advance to the conference semifinals. Rosson’s best statistical game was a five-goal, one assist performance against third-ranked Stevenson. He also chipped in two goals and an assist in wins against Mary Washington and Wesley, the latter in the opening round of the 2010 conference playoffs.

Beth Rhodey

Salisbury senior midfielder BETH RHODEY (Fallston, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week after after scoring four goals and adding an assist in leading the top-ranked Sea Gulls to an 18-12 victory at Mary Washington in the battle for first place and the top seed in the 2010 CAC Tournament. Her second goal of the game, early in the second half, ignited a six-goal run by the Gulls that erased a 9-5 halftime deficit, and her third goal of the game, during that surge, gave the Gulls the 10-9 lead which they never relinquished She also added a ground ball, three draw controls and caused three turnovers in the victory.

Duke Mensah-Abrampah and Tyler King

Mary Washington freshman midfielder DUKE MENSAH-ABRAMPAH (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) and Stevenson junior forward TYLER KING (PARKVILLE, Md./Calvert Hall) were named the CAC Men’s Soccer Co-Players of the Week after both scored twice to lead their teams to first-round CAC playoff victories Mensah-Abrampah rallied the third-seeded Eagles from a 1-0 deficit in the final eight minutes of regulation, his sixth goal of the season, then tallied the game-winner in the second overtime period to lift UMW into the conference semifinals. Mensah-Abrampah has 15 points on seven goals and an assist this season. King started the week with a goal and an assist at Gallaudet, then registered the first two goals of the game, including the game-winner, in a CAC playoff victory over Wesley. He has at least one point in four-straight games and has scored all of his 13 points (four goals, five assists) over the last six matches.

Desirae Sullivan And Brittany Therres

Stevenson junior 3B DESIRAE SULLIVAN (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and York sophomore pitcher BRITTANY THERRES (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone) were named the CAC Softball Co-Players of the Week. Sullivan hit .636 (7-for-11) in three Mustang victories with two doubles and a homer. She had a hit in all three games, including a 4-for-4 performance against Washington (Md.) College, and tied the team’s single-season record of 38 RBI by knocking in five runs during the week. Therres hurled York to a DH sweep at Shenandoah as the Spartans improved to 35-8 for the season. She opened with a four-hit complete-game 1-0 victory, striking out four with no walks. In the nightcap, she allowed one earned run on four hits with two whiffs in five frames, raising her season pitching record to 26.5.

Sam Wichlin and Ted cooke

Mary Washington freshman SAM WICHLIN (Ellicott City, Md./Ellicott City) and Stevenson sophomore TED COOKE (Snow Hill, Md./Snow Hill) were named the CAC Men’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week after going undefeated in singles play and recording a key weekend win, leading their teams to victories. Wichlin closed out UMW’s CAC regular-season schedule with a pair of victories over St. Mary’s and Hood. He then keyed a 7-2 Eagles decision over nationally-ranked Hampden-Sydney with a victory at the No. 1 spot. Cooke extended his winning streak at No. 1 singles to six, including a three-set victory in Stevenson’s CAC playoff match against Hood. Cooke, who went 4-1 at No. 1 singles in CAC regular-season play this season and leads the Mustangs with seven singles wins this year.

Emily Maerz

Hood freshman EMILY MAERZ (Myersville, Md./Middletown) was named the CAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after winning three singles matches and three doubles matches last week. Maerz lost only three games in three singles wins against Shenandoah, Trinity (D.C.) and Wesley in the CAC playoffs, then went 24-2 in three doubles matches with partner Danielle Hunt. Saturday’s victory over Wesley was the Blazers’ first-ever conference playoff win.

Sharis Allen

Wesley freshman SHARIS ALLEN (Dover, Del./Dover) was named the CAC Women’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week after breaking her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles at the Rowan Open. Allen crossed the finish line in sixth place in 16.80, one tenth of a second lower than her previous school mark. She also finished fourth in the long jump.

With 3:04 remaining in the first overtime, York College men's soccer sophomore Justin Facer knocked home the game-winner in the Spartans first contest of 2010. The Green and White topped Susquehanna 1-0 at Millville High School's Millard C. Ludwig Memorial Stadium.

The York College field hockey squad dropped their 2010 opener at Alvernia University, falling to the Crusaders 3-1 on Wednesday evening. Alvernia now stands at 1-0 while the Spartans are 0-1. The Spartans opened their 2009 season with a loss to the Crusaders.

Spartans Drop Season Opener at Eastern

The York College women's soccer squad dropped their 2010 opener, falling at Eastern University 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon in St. Davids, Pa. The Eagles, who fell to the Spartans 4-2 in last year's opener, improve to 1-0 overall while York now stands at 0-1.
