Field Athlete of the Week
Briana Sutton | Christopher Newport | Sr.
Williamsburg, Va. | Jamestown
Christopher Newport senior Briana Sutton earned CAC Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this year after climbing up the national charts in a pair of events while setting two school records at the Captains Classic & Combined Events over the weekend at POMOCO Stadium. Taking part in the heptathlon for the first time this season, she registered a score of 4,733 - topping the previous school standard of 4,509 established by former All-American Enuma Ezenwa in 2015. It also marks the second-highest score in the NCAA this year, falling just 66 points shy of the national leader. Additionally, Sutton broke the program record in the javelin with a 40.11-meter throw on Saturday. That tacked on nearly five feet to her own previous record of 38.62. It also stands as the 17th-finest throw in the country this year and the best effort in the CAC by over nine feet.
