  • Christopher Newport Women Dominate Mt. St. Mary, Advance to NCAA Tournament Round of 16

    Christopher Newport earned a decisive 79-52 neutral site victory at Gettysburg over Mount Saint Mary (NY) in the second round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday evening, advancing to next week's sectional round for the fourth straight season. The Captains will face Scranton in the Round of 16 next weekend after Scranton defeated Johns Hopkins, 59-45.
  • Christopher Newport Crowned 2019 CAC Women's Basketball Champions

    Christopher Newport captured its second Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Women's Basketball Championship on Saturday (Feb. 23) with a decisive 83-67 victory over Southern Virginia inside the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University. The top-seeded Captains also hoisted the conference title in 2017 and made their third consecutive conference title game appearance.

  • Southern Virginia's Garrish, CNU's Fan & Broderick Receive Top CAC Women's Basketball Honors

    FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Southern Virginia sophomore Katie Garrish received top conference honors to highlight the 2019 All-CAC Women's Basketball Team. Christopher Newport's Sondra Fan collected CAC Rookie of the Year honors, while Bill Broderick was selected "Bill Finney" CAC Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons after leading the Captains to the outright conference regular season title. 
  • Top Seeds Advance to Thursday's CAC Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinals

    All four higher seeds advanced in Tuesday's (Feb. 19) opening round of the 2019 CAC Women's Basketball Tournament. Thursday's semifinal rounds will feature #1 Christopher Newport hosting #4 Mary Washington, while #2 Southern Virginia welcomes #3 Salisbury for a trip to the conference championship game on Saturday.
  • Mary Washington's Jordan Pamlanye Honored CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

    Mary Washington senior guard Jordan Pamlanye led Mary Washington a pair of key CAC road wins this week, knocking off Southern Va. and York, averaging 14.5 PPG and 11 rebounds per game. She netted 13 points in the win at SVU, making 3-6 field goals and 7-9 free throws and grabbing 11 boards. In the win at York, she broke the UMW school single game record by going 12-12 from the free throw line en route to 16 points to go with her 11 rebounds.
  • CNU Earns Top Seed in CAC Women's Basketball Tournament; Playoff Matchups Set

    Christopher Newport clinched the CAC women's basketball regular season title and the top seed in the CAC Tournament with a 92-66 victory at Penn State Harrisburg. The Captains finished with a conference record of 11-3 and are 20-5 overall on the year.
  • St. Mary's Gina Seifert Earns CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Accolades
    February 11, 2019
    St. Mary's junior forward Gina Seifert led the Seahawks to two victories during the week over Mary Washington and York. Led the team in points per game with 19 against Mary Washington and 17 against York. The 5-11 forward recorded a double-double against York, knocking down 17 points and gathering 15 rebounds. Additionally, Seifert hustled for four steals against Mary Washington and recorded one block in both games this week.
  • Southern Virginia's Katie Garrish Claims Fifth CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honor

    Southern Virginia's Katie Garrish had a season's best week averaging 26.5 points per game while managing to shoot 57.8 percent from the floor. The Knights rebounded after a short losing skid, defeating York to keep the Knights atop the CAC standings.
  • York's Katie McGowan Selected CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

    York senior forward Katie McGowan led the Spartans to a pair of upset victories as York defeated Frostburg State and Christopher Newport this week. In the win over Frostburg State, McGowan went off with career-highs of 29 points and 15 rebounds while she also had three blocked shots and one assist. She was 12-for-22 from the field including 2-of-3 from three and 3-of-6 from the line. In the Saturday victory over #22 CNU, McGowan tallied 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists, four steals, and a blocked shot in her 27 minutes of action. For the week, McGowan averaged 22 points, 11.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocked shots per game. She shot 45.9% from the floor as the Spartans earned the pair of key conference wins.
  • Southern Virginia's Alexus Barnes Collects CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Recognition

    Southern Virginia senior guard Alexus Barnes was vital in the Knights continued dominance this past week improving the team to 6-0 in conference play and continue their 14-game winning streak. Barnes scored a then season-high against No. 16 Christopher Newport with 19 points and followed up her season's best with a career-high 26 points in their victory over St. Mary's (Md.). Barnes averaged 22.5 points while shooting 61.5 percent from the floor including 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
  • Southern Virginia's Katie Garrish Claims Third Straight CAC Women's Basketball Weekly Award

    Southern Virginia sophomore forward Katie Garrish posted her seventh and eighth consecutive double-double this past week extending the Knights winning streak to 12 games. Garrish's play helped the Knights remain unbeaten in CAC play as they went 2-0 for the week. She averaged 18 points per game on 51.9 percent from the field and 88.9 perfect from the foul line. Garrish also averaged 17.5 rebounds per game with four blocks and a pair of steals for the week of Jan. 14.
  • Southern Virginia's Katie Garrish Earns Third CAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honor
    January 07, 2019
    Southern Virginia sophomore forward Katie Garrish's dominance continued for the second straight week, leading Southern Virginia to another perfect week going 2-0 in CAC play. She recorded a pair of double-doubles for the week with a 25 point, 17 rebound against Penn St.-Harrisburg and 20 points with 15 boards at York (Pa.). She also recorded a career-high five steals against the Lions. For the week Garrish shot 90% from the foul line and an impressive 69.5% from the floor. Garrish has now collected six straight double-doubles and has help the Knights win-steak reach double-figures at 10.
  • Southern Virginia's Katie Garrish Claims Second CAC Women's Basketball Weekly Accolades

    Southern Virginia sophomore forward Katie Garrish continued her incredible play recording her seventh double-double of the season, her fourth consecutive. She dropped 23 points on 56.3 percent from the field and shot 83.3 percent from the charity stripe. Along with scoring, she continued her dominance on the boards with 12 rebounds and added a pair of blocks in the victory over Bethany (W.V.) to continue the Knights eight-game winning streak.
  • Salisbury's Kaylyn French Earns CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honors

    Salisbury senior forward Kaylyn French shot 72.7% from the field and scored a team-high 17 points in the Sea Gulls' win over Neumann University on Saturday afternoon. She also recorded four blocks and a steal to help push the team's winning streak to three games.
  • Southern Virginia's Katie Garrish Captures CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honors

    Southern Virginia's Katie Garrish tallied a career-high 30 points in a home win against Shenandoah and career-high 19 rebounds against Eastern Mennonite. She recorded her fifth double-double of the season. Anchored the defense with four steals per game and 3.5 blocks per game to help the Knights go undefeated for the week and stay on a current seven-game win streak.
  • Frostburg State's Victoria Diggs Earns CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Recognition

    Frostburg junior Victoria Diggs scored 25 points and led Frostburg to a 56-52 win over Juniata in their only action of the week.
  • Southern Virginia's Savanna Christensen Earns CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honors

    In a short week for women’s basketball, sophomore Savanna Christensen had a career week for the Knights in a non-conference matchup on the road at Eastern Mennonite. Christensen posted a double-double with a career-high 17 points, shooting 7-12 from the field including 3-7 from behind the arc and adding a new career-high with 15 rebounds. Christensen contributed on the defensive end collecting another career-high with five blocks on the night, helping the Knights secure the 75-70 victory.
  • Christopher Newport's Natalie Terwilliger Tabbed CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

    Christopher Newport freshman forward Natalie Terwilliger was selected as the CAC Player of the Week despite playing an average of 12 minutes per game so far, the freshman forward ranks second on the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 10.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. She has registered a pair of double-doubles with 12 points, 10 rebounds against Stevenson and 12 points and 13 rebounds against CCNY. She also scored in double figures in a 77-52 win against Virginia Wesleyan. Terwilliger is shooting 53.3% through her first four games, including 50% from three (5-10). She has also grabbed 5 steals and blocked 6 shots. The Captains are off to a perfect start 4-0 start.
  • Christopher Newport Lands Atop CAC Women's Basketball Preseason Poll; York & Mary Washington Also Nab First-Place Votes

    Christopher Newport was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the 2018-19 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Preseason Poll. The Captains received five first-place votes and tallied 46 points to secure the top spot in voting among the conference head coaches. 
  • Southern Virginia's Garrish & CNU's Kirkland Named D3hoops.com All-Region; SVU's Wardenburg Named Coach of the Year

    Southern Virginia sophomore forward Katie Garrish and Christopher Newport junior guard Kiana Kirkland were each named to the D3hoops.com All-Middle-Atlantic First Team, while Southern Virginia's Adam Wardenburg was selection the region's Coach of the Year, the organization announced on Tuesday.

    Christopher Newport earned a huge 82-78 road victory at host Gettysburg in the first round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday evening, advancing to Saturday's second round. The Captains will face Mount Saint Mary (NY) at 6 p.m. at Gettysburg for a spot in the Sweet 16.

    Christopher Newport has earned Capital Athletic Conference's (CAC) automatic bid and will hit the road this weekend for the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament. The CAC champions will hit the road to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for the opening rounds of NCAA's.
