Mary Washington junior Jeff Gibson captured the individual title and Athlete of the Year accolades while team-champion York placed each of its top six runners among the top-16 finishers to highlight the 2018 All-CAC Men's Cross Country team.
York placed five runners in the top-15 to capture its fourth overall CAC men's cross country title on Saturday at Vista Links Golf Course in Buena Vista, Va. The Spartans snapped Christopher Newport's three-year reign atop the conference with the victory. It marked York's first title since 2013. The Spartans won three-straight titles from 2011-13.
The 2018 CAC Cross Country Championship meet will be hosted Southern Virginia at Vista Links Golf Course in Buena Vista, Va. on Saturday. Race time for the men's 8k is 11 a.m., followed by the women's 6k at noon.

Coming off its third-straight Capital Athletic Conference title and the conference's highest-ever team placing at the NCAA National Championships, Christopher Newport was selected as the preseason favorite in the 2018 CAC Men's Cross Country Preseason Poll. The Captains received six first-place votes and 48 points to earn top billing in a vote among the conference head coaches.
St. Mary's College of Maryland Associate Director for Internal Operations Jim Cranmer announced Monday the hiring of Michael Gentile as the next head coach of the St. Mary's men's and women's cross country programs. Gentile, who will also serve as the assistant director for the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center (MPOBARC), will begin his duties on Monday, August 6.
