Southern Virginia Promotes Wilson to Lead Track & Field Programs

BUENA VISTA, Va. — Southern Virginia University Director of Athletics Jason Lamb today announced that Elizabeth Wilson has been promoted to head coach over the men's and women's track and field programs.

"This is an amazing opportunity for us to have a top-competitor lead our track & field programs," Lamb said. "As an assistant coach last season, and a DI collegiate heptathlete, Elizabeth has proven to be well-versed in what it takes for a program to succeed."

Last season, Wilson served as the throwers coach under head coach Clint May who oversaw both the cross country and track and field programs. This season, Wilson will lead the track and field program while Coach May focuses on building the cross-country program.

"Splitting these two programs will allow each of them to grow faster," Lamb said. "Coach May is a top-level cross country coach who was willing to get our track & field program off the ground last season. We are grateful to him for getting the program this far, and look to Coach Wilson to take it to the next level."

Before coming to Southern Virginia, Wilson competed at Brigham Young University as a heptathlete and jumper. The heptathlon consists of seven events, the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meter dash, long jump, javelin, and 800-meter run.

At BYU, she was an eight-time All-Conference recipient, two-time Academic All-American, and holds top-ten all-time performances in the indoor pentathlon, indoor triple jump, and outdoor triple jump. She also served as team captain during her junior and senior seasons.

The Minneapolis, Minnesota native graduated from BYU with a Bachelor's of Science in health education. From 2014-16, Wilson served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Diego, California.

"Coach Wilson is capable and confident in knowing how to help athletes succeed," Lamb continued. "She is a strong recruiter and has a passion for the mission of Southern Virginia University."
