Mary Washington's Carey, Kilby Earn Top CAC Men's Soccer Awards; Eagles Lead Way With Six All-CAC Selections

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Mary Washington senior Justin Carey and head coach Jason Kilby earned top conference honors to headline a contingent of six Eagles on the 2018 All-CAC Men's Soccer Team.

Carey was named the CAC Player of the Year, becoming the sixth UMW player, and first since 1997, to receive the CAC's top annual award. The senior midfielder was a first-team All-CAC selection, earning all-conference honors for the second year in a row.

Kilby was selected by his peers as the Coach of the Year for the third season in a row after guiding the Eagles to back-to-back CAC titles. It marks the fourth time Kilby has garnered the award in his UMW coaching career, with the initial one coming in 2012. With the honor, he is now just the third coach in conference history to accumluate at least four Coach of the Year awards, joining former UMW coach Roy Gordon (8 times) and former Salisbury coach and current SU athletic director Gerry DiBartolo (6 times) in that elite club.

Other major awards were collected by Frostburg State freshman goalkeeper Joel Assal and Christopher Newport freshman midfielder Tanner Dail, as each were named Co-Rookies of the Year. Dail, who was also a second-team All-CAC pick, is the second CNU player to receive Rookie of the Year accolades, while Assal is the first-ever Bobcat to collect the award.

Joining Carey on the All-CAC first team for UMW were senior forward Ryan Van Maanan, senior defender Gary Foley, and sophomore goalkeeper Ken Kurtz. Van Maanan is a repeat first-teamer, while Foley concludes his career as a three-time All-CAC selection after securing second-team accolades each of the last two seasons. Senior defender Will Donohoe and junior midfielder Ben Ahrens landed on the second team for the Eagles.

St. Mary's, which placed second in the regular season and conference tournament, secured five positions on the All-CAC squad, including four first-team selections. Senior midfielder Juwan Kearson closed out his career as a four-time all-conference pick, earning first-team awards each of the last three seasons. Junior forward Khalid Balogun, the 2016 Rookie of the Year, received first-team accolades for the third-straight year. A pair of forwards - junior Josh McRobie and sophomore Roshawn Panton - also nabbed first-team accolades for the Seahawks. Junior defender Andrew Kalinoski rounded out the St. Mary's all-stars as a second-team honoree.

York also received five spots on the all-conference team. The Spartan honorees were headlined by junior defender Brook Addisu and senior midfielder Nathan Bilbie, who each landed on the first team. Addisu was a repeat first-teamer while Bilbie was also a second-team selection in 2016. Sophomore forward Zion Friday repeated as a second-team pick, while junior forward Keith Witherell and junior midfielder Barak Amige also earned second-team honors for York.

Salisbury placed a trio on the all-star team, led by junior midfielder Ryan Spadin on the All-CAC first team. Junior defender Alex Eiben and senior goalkeeper Trevor Brookhart collected second-team laurels for the Sea Gulls.

Christopher Newport senior Bobby Seifert led a contingent of three Captains on the all-conference team. Seifert earned his third-straight All-CAC honor, securing first-team honors for the second year in a row. Rookie-of-the-Year Tanner Dail and junior defender Derek Cook were named to the second team for CNU.

Frostburg State and Penn State Harrisburg each placed two on the All-CAC squad. Frostburg State senior defender Brett Basham collected first-team honors, while sophomore forward Randy Putnam was a second-team pick. It marks the second all-conference honor for Basham, as he was a second-teamer in 2016.

Penn State Harrisburg was represented on the All-CAC second team by sophomore forward Joey Aman and senior midfielder Ethan Hoover
