York (Pa.) and Salisbury controlled their semifinals and earned spots against each other in the 2019 CAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament Championship Match on Saturday (May 4) at 3 p.m. York will host the league finale as the Spartans are the No. 1 seed in the tournament thanks to an 11-9 victory over Salisbury in the regular season back on April 17th. This marks the fourth straight season York and Salisbury will battle for the CAC Men's Lacrosse title.
Top-seeded York defeated No. 5 Frostburg State in semifinal action by a 10-3 margin as the Spartans locked down defensively and shut down the Bobcats offense. York led 5-0 after the first quarter and 7-1 at the intermission. The Spartans forced the Bobcats into 25 turnovers and collected 40 ground balls, including six from Billy Sasso and five from Ryan Kennedy. Hunter Davis paced York offensively with four goals.
No. 2 Salisbury eliminated No. 3 Christopher Newport 14-6 as the Sea Gulls improved to 18-1 on the season. Salisbury led throughout the contest and went 21-for-24 on faceoffs in the victory. The Sea Gulls also earned a 49-24 advantage on ground balls thanks to an impressive 18 from Brett Malamphy. On offense, Salisbury was paced by Zach Pompea and Josh Melton who each recorded four goals and an assist in the win.
Salisbury will seek to win its 22nd CAC Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday and third consecutive, while York looks to claim its second league title with their lone triumph being in 2016. The conference champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
