Christopher Newport and Mary Washington Notch Home Victories, Move on to CAC Men's Lacrosse Semifinals

Christopher Newport and Mary Washington each posted home wins in the first round of the CAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament to advance to Saturday's semifinal round. 

Third-seeded CNU defeated sixth-seeded Southern Virginia 14-8 at Captains Turf Field, while fourth-seeded Mary Washington edged fifth-seeded Frostburg State 11-9 at the Battleground. 

With the victories, the Captains and Eagles advance to Saturday's CAC semifinals, where CNU will travel to second-seeded York for a 3:30 p.m. matchup and Mary Washington will travel to top-seeded Salisbury for a 4 p.m. start. Both games will be the back-end of CAC lacrosse semifinal doubleheaders, as the Spartan and Sea Gull women are also hosting semifinal matchups against CNU and UMW, respectively. 

In Newport News, Va., CNU topped Southern Virginia the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year. Ryan Mills led the attack with six points, including five goals. Will Geise, who established a new program record with his 66th career appearance on Wednesday, also added six points for the hosts. 

In Fredericksburg, Va., Mary Washington received two goals apiece from Mike Marson, Shane McKenzie, and Robert Tata en route to an 11-9 victory over visiting Frostburg State.
