Marymount women's lacrosse rising junior goalkeeper Holly Reik is fresh off a strong sophomore campaign in which she helped the Saints to a 13-6 overall record and their first-ever ECAC Championship. INTRODUCING ... Holly Reik.
Briefly, what is your background in the sport you play?
I am a goalie and I started playing in first grade. I played for Looney’s Lacrosse Club in high school andcommitted to Marymount University in my junior year.
What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?I am majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in psychology. The most important thing I’ve learned is that tobe successful in law enforcement respect is necessary in every situation.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
My favorite spot on campus is the balcony behind Rowley. It overlooks the backfield and golf course and isreally cool at night.
Outside of your home and campus, where is your favorite place visit?
My favorite place to visit is Serpicos pizza. It’s a local pizza place back at home and I get spaghetti pizza everytime.
Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in (on campus or off campus)?
I am a member of the Honor’s Program and I am a peer tutor for our Center for Teaching and Learning.
Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career.
My most memorable moment is when my team found out that we made it into ECACs. That was the first time for our program and it was a really big deal. We were all so happy and excited, it was crazy.
Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?
Coach Kate is definitely the most influential person in my life. She is the best coach I’ve ever had and she isconstantly pushing us to be the best we can while supporting us when things don’t go like we planned.
What is the most important societal issue facing college students?
Debt is a huge problem for college students. We’ve all accepted that we will be in debt but that isn’t necessary.There has to be a better system so students don’t come out of college with such a big burden.
If you could change any one item in the world (in your personal life, school, community, amateur orprofessional sports, national/international issue, etc.), what would it be, why, and how would you do it?
I would get a dog. I’ve wanted a dog for a long time and I think they’re the best things in the world. I would get a dog from the pound so I know that I’m not contributing to dog breeding problems.
What is your favorite form of entertainment?
My teammates are really funny. I live with four of them and there’s never a dull moment in Osta G303.
If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?
I would say to have fun. When you’re a kid, your number one priority should be to have fun and play, not to worry about school or anything else.
Outside of the CAC, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?
Devon Wills is my favorite goalie. She’s had a legendary career as a lacrosse goalie and she’s broken so manybarriers of what people think female goalies are capable of.
Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?
I would have dinner with Bill Nye because I’m a science nerd and I think it’d be fun to ask him sciencequestions. Ellen Degeneres would also be there because she’s hilarious. The Grinch is my favorite movie of all time so I would want him there too.
